The wife recently got pregnant and will be giving birth next year, so I need a little help to decide between a high-deductible health plan with an HSA and PPO copay plan.
Here is the summary of both plans:
HSA:
- Employer contributes $1000
- I contribute $6750 for total of $7750
- Family deductible = $7500 in-network
- Coinsurance = 20%
- Family out-of-pocket maximum = $13 100 in-network
- All office visits and ER visits are "20% after deductible"
- Monthly premium = $450 (me + wife)
Traditional PPO:
- Family deductible = $2000 in-network
- Coinsurance = 20%
- Family out-of-pocket maximum = $9000 in-network
- Office/Specialist visits $30 copay
- ER visits $250 copay
- Monthly premium = $630 (me + wife)
The HSA is $180 cheaper per month, but this would be the first child and I have no idea how much childbirth related services cost, so it's hard to chose a plan.
