I don't have a washer and dryer, don't have a car, and don't have a laundromat within walking distance. Until recently I've been getting rides to the laundromat, but money got tight and I started washing clothes at my parents' house. It's still a pain in the ass (and inconvenient, since I often have to wait days before I can visit my parents and days to get the laundry back if I don't have time to stay for it to be finished) so I thought I'd supplement it by handwashing small batches of laundry. It's been a very, very limited success.
I figured I'd ease into handwashing by starting with the kitchen towels, because if I screw them up they'll just become rags. I've got a collapsible tub, gloves, a silicon scrubby thingie, and a bar of solid laundry detergent that I got as a freebie. It's a huge pain and takes forever, even for a handful of towels. I soak and scrub but they don't come out feeling as clean as machine washed stuff does. The worst part is the cat hair. I have three cats, two of them with black fur, and handwashing just will not detach it. Even after multiple steps of soaking and rinsing, the cat hair stays.
I barely know what I'm doing here. Anyone have any advice?
