Hi all. I work for a small IT company (<20 staff) in Brisbane, Qld. Started as an entry level in 2016 on 50k (45 base+5 performance bonus). Have worked my way up to 72k (65+7k) as a service desk manager now. I was made SD manger (from coordinator) and included in the management team as part of a restructure 3 months ago. I was expecting a raise along with the promotion but that didn’t happen, probably because we got a new GM during the restructure. Now, based on my skills, experience, contributions and market rates, I believe my recomp should be higher (~85k at least). New GM also hinted at a raise but not sure it would be more than 5k. For context, our company is a great workplace with good culture but tends to pay on the lower end of market rates.

I haven’t done salary negotiations before. I enjoy the work I do but it can be quite exhaustive at times. I wanted to give the new GM 3-4 months to settle in before discussing my package as I don’t mean to come across as opportunistic. but unsure how to proceed from here. Should I take the initiative and ask for a raise or wait till he offers a raise and then negotiate it.

Any advice would be appreciated.
