I’ve had my mattress now for just about 6 years. I love it, as it is the perfect firmness for me as a side sleeper and I invested a fair bit of money on it when I purchased it initially.

Years ago, I remember seeing other Redditors write about how you should always invest in the things that are between you and the ground: tires, shoes and mattresses. I subscribe to this way of thinking and am frugal in nearly every other area of my life.

With that being said, I noticed that the portion of the mattress that has gotten the most use (the side I have slept on consistently while single and in relationships) had started to lose support/springiness. I joked with my husband that I felt like I was sleeping in a pit. In actuality, I was sleeping terribly and my back hurt. He slept on that side for a few nights and confirmed that it my description was very accurate.

I don’t have the type of mattress that you can flip over, but I realized that I could rotate it instead. The foot of the mattress is now the head and it has made it feel like a brand new mattress.

I’m no longer sleeping in a pit every night and we aren’t down a bunch of money on a new mattress. Definitely a win!
