I rarely buy electronics (for frugal, ethical, and lazy reasons), but I've been trying to join the 21st century a bit more recently and buy more.

But it's begun to feel like as soon as I buy something I need to start a rather short timer for when it's going to become either compromised or just totally nonfunctional. The latest was, just before, my Bluetooth speaker suddenly started displaying rune-like shapes on its LED display, can't turn off, and can't connect to any devices. And it definitely wasn't dropped, gotten wet, left in heat, etc. It just seems to have given up the ghost for no discernible reason.

Doesn't feel in the spirit of frugality.
