So as the title states, I recently attained my associate's degree in business admin. I currently live in Connecticut, which means that I got the degree for free.
I'm moving to Austin with a buddy of mine, who is making very good money and is generous enough to help me with a portion of the bills. My rent will be capped at $700 plus utilities. I live in CT right now, which means the cost of living in Austin will be a little bit cheaper than it is here, I think.
I currently have close to $8000 saved up thanks to the ARP and being pretty frugal over the years (I lived in a 2 bedroom apartment with 3 people while I worked at a grocery store to put myself through school). The last couple of months I've lived back at home while in between leases and finishing up my degree.
So I was hoping for some advice on the best way to go about getting this dental work done. I know that I'm gonna have to drop a good amount of cash on driving my car across the country, first/last months rent, and the cost of a new mattress. I'm not entirely sure how much that will come to which is why I haven't spent any of the cash I've saved thus far, just in case I run into any unforeseen expenses.
I've got a job lined up for when I get there that pays $40k a year, which isn't much but a hell of a lot more than I was making at my local grocery store. I also plan to do a lot of door dash/uber eats with my newly had free time, since I won't be going to complete my Bachelor's degree right away.
I have pretty good credit at 753. I heard that its possible to get a loan specifically for dental treatment, but I wanted to see if there were other options to consider before signing up.
The specifics of the dental work I need:
I grew up poor so never got braces. I also fucked up big time and didn't brush enough (please don't be like me to anyone reading this). So I need to get a couple of root canals, a couple of crowns and probably even more. The estimated bill I got in CT was over $10k, and that's before braces.
I'm not in any pain yet, so I was hoping to get the ball rolling on Invisalign right away, and get the other stuff fixed at a later date. But again, open to suggestions.
I've also pondered the possibility of heading south of the border to get treatment.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys.
