I recently moved to California and the area I live in is definitely the kind of place meant for cars, not transit. I'm pretty early in my career but I'm earning enough to afford car payments but it would definitely be a big purchase.
My consideration is whether I should buy a cheaper used car now (which is still kinda expensive atm) and in several years go on to buy a nicer new car when prices are hopefully a little lower and I have more money saved up, or should I just buy a new car now and expect that it will last me long enough to make it worth it.
I know this ultimately comes down to personal choice, but that's not why I made the post. I want to hear what your actual opinions/pros and cons for these options would be. I'm looking for some perspective from others, especially since I've never owned a car before. Would I regret buying an old car? would I regret buying a new car? etc.
