I have lived with roommates since I was 18. I'm 24 now. Just moved in with a roommate who has never lived on his own before.
Our last electric bill was $137. Ridiculous.
I like it keep it cool on the house same as him, but he does certain things that are so unnecessary.
He says changing the thermostat spikes the bill so we need to leave it at 69 all day (even while at work).
This man has lost his damn mind. I've told him over and over that no, leaving it running all day does NOT save money. If i turn off the air, yes there is a spike because it was off and now it's on, but it's STILL not as bad as running it all day.
He's been out of town for 2 weeks and (tracking the electricity I used) it was lower than it's been since we moved in. Like. Exponentially lower.
He tried to get snippy with me about the bill today and said it's because I leave the door open for the cats when it's nice outside (we have a screened in patio). That's when I turn all the fans on, crack the door, and turb the ac off. It stays cool all day. I'm so frustrated with this because it's driving me crazy. He is talking to me like I don't know how to handle and electric bill. This man told me not to touch the thermostat tonight and I almost lost my mind.
Any advice?
