I’ve been giving this some thought lately and I’m not sure what the best long term (possibly short term) path is.

I spoke to a friend recently and he mentioned that he owns 3 properties he acquired through a loan. He’s paid 20% down for each property and is paying the loan off in 30 years. Each of these properties has been rented out and are returning $1k+ a month to him which essentially pays off his loans and then some.

I’m 29 years old and I have about $20k invested in the stock market. I had a long term plan of slowly investing more in the market until it was large enough, however many years down the road, and I’d pull out but I’m thinking that going with the real estate route just makes more sense. Your properties are gaining value annually (probably not at the rate of the stock market) and you’re also receiving an immediate return on the investment.

I’d love for opinions on this and what is generally a better path. Thank you!
