This is in Texas if that matters. Anyway, my friends father had a 401k. The father died 20 years ago, and as far as I know my friend was the soul beneficiary. The father's mother also passed away a while back. But he recently found out that it was closed in 2004. It's gone now. No idea where the money went.
What does my friend need to do to track down this 40K? It'll be life-changing for him. I'm assuming the state picked it up because it was untouched for some time? Not sure. Any advice would be awesome.
