Hey guys, I am 23 with no debt, a good credit score, and a savings account. I am currently teaching abroad and have saved a decent amount from my job so far.
I have applied and been invited to join the Peace Corps, but the more I think about it I worry about whether it is a smart financial decision or not. I could simply decide to go to another country to scratch the travel itch and continue teaching for a salary, or do PC for the salary of a local (likely around $200 a month) with a $10k readjustment salary after completion of service.
I am torn, because both options sound good to me. The reason I would continue teaching rather than doing PC is so that I can continue to grow my savings and hopefully have enough to pay for grad school in full without taking any loans. However, the Peace Corps is definitely a bucket list item, but the good thing about my current job is that I can always pick up and move somewhere else at the end of each contract.
Any advice?
