My husband will complete his PhD program in about 5 years. I am just working. My grandpa passed away and gave his kids (me being one 9) about $50k each. We don't need the money right now for anything immediate. We just rent and will buy a house and start and family and all that after he is done with his studies. He does earn a $24k a year stipend. Might get more next year but we don't know yet.
Anyway, I'm wondering what we should do with the $50k. I want to grow it, but I don't know where to get started. Ideally it should make some money because we plan on using that towards a down payment on a house when my husband graduates.
Someone told me that its not worth it to put that money in the market if its just 5 years. Not sure how accurate that is, but am also wondering what would you guys do.
