I’m 30 years old. I have been fortunate to never have a car payment. I just sold the car that I’ve driven the past 10 years for $10,000. Now l need to find a car in this evidently chaotic marketplace. I’ve dug though this sub and others but have been overwhelmed by the info.

I’m looking to buy a reliable brand (Honda, Toyota, etc), and drive it for the next 10+ years. I want to be financially responsible, but also consider that I expect my income will increase in the time I own the car, so I don’t want to wish I had gotten something nicer. I currently make $80,000/year in LCOL area. Credit score is mid-700’s. Okay I’m working from home for 2 more months so I have time to prepare and make sure I do it right, but I’d like to get this done now.

I don’t know where to begin. New or used? I’ve heard that the value gap between new and used has diminished recently so new might be a better option that before. Where to look? Dealership s on negotiation?Should I act quick for EOY deals? Any suggestions, tips, rules of thumb, advice would be greatly appreciated!
