Within the Infrastructure bill there is a provision requiring more domestic production of PPE($MMM $LAKE and $APT). The pandemic exposed debilitating gaps in the supply chain for medical goods that include personal protective equipment. Manufacturing of PPE was based primarily overseas and companies experienced long delays right as demand accelerated with the onset of the pandemic. The legislation demands that any federal contract to buy PPE must be for two years and go to a domestic manufacturer. The two-year time frame will give the domestic PPE maker enough financial security to stay in the market. The "Buy American" provision is intended to prop up U.S. PPE manufacturers with government contracts that last at least two years.
