Last November I had a dental procedure totaling around 13k. The office I went to explained that my dental insurance has a yearly maximum of $1500, and they may not even pay out the full max, so their policy is all patients must pay in full. This made sense to me so I handed over a check.
4 months went by without receiving an EOB so I reached out to the dental office, who admitted they never filed a claim. Odd, but no harm done since they went ahead and submitted the claim. A few weeks later I receive an EOB in the mail stating they paid the dental office $1200. Score!
I reached out to the office and asked for them to please reimburse me since I had paid in full. They insisted I keep it on my account as a credit until I was complete with post-ops, follow ups, etc. Annoying, but fine. Months pass and I am released back to my general dentist. I ask for a refund and was assured I would get a check in the mail. That was 5 months ago. I have asked for this refund a total of five times since they have received payment and I am continually dismissed.
What else can I do?
