Hi! My roommate and I have a programmable thermostat. She works from home and I don't so she primarily programs it, but back in August, she was away for a lot of the month so I would set the A/C to higher during the day and cooler when I got home thinking I would be saving money. That ended up jacking the bill up, and she said it was because it was using more energy for the A/C to keep recooling in the evening.
Now my roommate is away again and we're using the heat. It's looking like we'll both be away this weekend and I was thinking about turning the thermostat from the 65F she has it set to down to 60F while I'm gone, but I'm afraid that will cause the same issue as in summer. We have gas heat, would this somehow jack up the cost again or will it save us money? Thanks!!
