I'm mid 30s, married with kids, decent financial situation and live within our means. Just hit 500k in retirement savings. Plan to work until mid 60s.
Running the numbers, if I don't save anymore in my retirement accounts, and average 7% annual growth I'll have 4M when I retire. Plus maximum SS benefits, plus my house payed off and all my after tax savings. Do I really even need to keep saving more for retirement?
If I stopped maxing my 401k it would allow me to do a lot of home improvement projects and pursue more hobbies. Living middle class through your prime years just to retire upper class seems like a tradeoff maybe not worth making.
