Hello fellow investors,
I am looking for advice regarding an issue with my broker.
To sum up, I have held shares of a company until my broker paid me the special dividends (back in July). As I have got what I wanted, I have sold my shares and invested the dividends back in something else. One week ago, my broker decided to reclaim the dividends and removed the money amounting for the dividends from my capital. They called me the following day to sweeten the pill and admitted that they have made a mistake by paying it too early. I have told them this mistake had a penalising impact on my investment strategy. As this mistake was their fault, not mine, I have told them it should be them to take the loss, not me. Why should I be the one making up for their mistake ? To be honest, I should have not got the dividends (about 10k). They messed up by giving it to me and too early. I have made decisions following this 10k gain (opening positions or closing others) that resulted in more significant losses. I would have not made these decisions if they haven't paid me the dividends.
Regarding this matter, am I right to ask for something ? It is a pretty well known broker and I think they are down for a compensation as long as I provide a solid argument regarding the penalising impact.
