My husband desperately wants to quit his job and it’s causing some tension in our marriage. He is very unhappy and wants to start his own business, which I totally support. However I am scared of him quitting before any other income is secure.
Our situation is:
His current income is: 30,000 no pension/benefits My current income is: 70,000 with raises per year up to 100,000. Good pension and benefits. Both of our tfsas are maxed We have a little over $500,000 in savings (we want to invest some of this but that’s another post) Our mortgage is: 1,300 per month. That’s really our only large scale debt. Cars are both paid for.
Husband has told me if his business doesn’t pan out in a year he will consider going back to school as well to make a career shift.
We are also looking at starting a family in the next year.
I really want to support my husband with this but I am just nervous if it is the right choice. We have always been very careful with our money. Am I crazy for really wanting him to find something else or get some traction on his business first given our situation?
Thanks!
