I worked at a grocery store for a couple months to pick up some pay checks and joining the union was part of the hiring agreement. However I got a different job and am now doing that, except my union sent me a letter saying I owe them $450 dollars in dues and will be suspended if I don’t pay them.
I haven’t worked at the store in 2-3 months.
Should I call the union? Will I accrue debt if I don’t pay them? Is being suspended from a union really bad?
I was officially part of the union for maybe 2 weeks before I left the job due to the time it took for the paperwork to go through. I’m very frustrated by this especially since I didn’t have access to benefits or hr because new hires have a 3 month probation.
