tldr I live in a slumlord-like divided upstairs apartment with no central AC/Heat, have 8 windows across 2 rooms in ~600sq ft.

How do I prepare my apartment for the cold? - Space heater advice: I don’t have a lot of space for multiple space heaters. I’m looking for one that can heat up a 400 sqft room that’s safe to be unattended at night with cats around

  • Have some thermal curtains up already
  • Mostly nervous about night time cold snaps

Anyway, I’ve been displaced due to covid and ended up living in borderline poverty “historical” housing. The kind place of lease that comes with a mandatory agreement that you may possibly die from mold inside this home. First time, don’t really have any external support in real life. I really could use any advice.

I don’t have central A/C. There are 8 windows inside my 700 sqft apartment. 2 windows have A/C units in them. Lots of opportunities for the cold to get in, right? Fortunately most of the windows are painted shut, so maybe the windows won’t be so bad.

I live in an upstairs duplex sort of unit in a converted house. There’s one neighbor downstairs, and their unit is directly under mine. So, I’m hoping the downstairs neighbor cranks their heat and I get some extra free warmth!

The nights are getting colder. I hope everyone can make their space as comfortable as they can as the year comes to a close.
