Friend that works as a waiter told me his employer takes 5% off all the tips given through credit card transactions (so cash isn't affected). I was curious about the transaction fees businesses have and looked it up, and the highest number I can see is ~3.5%. Am I missing something? Is the employer just taking more money than necessary ?
