I am 30 years old, I have a fidelity advisor Roth IRA (2055).
I have 30k in my Marcus with Goldman and Sachs savings account which gets 0.5% APY.
I don’t plan to buy a house for at least 5 years, but probably a little more (5-7). Só my plan was to leave 10k as an emergency fund in my Marcus savings account. The other 20k I want to put it in a Charles schwab index fund.
I understand close to nothing about how investing works. I know the basics, that in the index fund it’s a mix of stocks and bonds (correct me if I’m wrong).
I should of done this a while ago, but I just recently got my life back on track and have been working on increasing my credit score (760) and researching investing.
So can I please get some advice on which Charles Schwab options to choose? Ideally I would have this money in there for at least 5 years, possibly more. But I want to do this ASAP so please help me decide what options to choose and a explanation of why I should choose it.
I live in central California if that means anything. And I make about 70k myself. I also have a wife and son but my wife doesn’t make very much money, but she will be a nurse in the next couple years and she will be making more then me.
Thank you in advance for any help. I really appreciate it and would really like to get this done soon.
TLDR: What Charles schwab index fund options do I pick? I am a beginner in the investing world and really need help.
Edit: added TLDR, and fixed a typo.
