Car maintenance can be a good way to save money. Did rear brakes on a car in the driveway yesterday. We bought our house in 2009 as a tore up foreclosure. The car I was working on was $5,000 less than our house. The guy drove it with the pads grinding until the pad fell off. I have a $500 truck. I've put $1400 in maintenance in 70,000 miles. I haul house supplies. Tires with 90% tread were $100 at the salvage yard. The guy that owns the car has spent so much on cars that he has no assets. No house. He's put thousands into this car, owes more than what its worth
