After reading about another Redditor who found food dumpster diving, I figured this might be helpful (and safer!).
There are a bunch of food banks that will give tons away for free.
I'm not financially struggling but we keep getting tons of free food, like a 2'x3' box full of potatoes, onions, sweet potatoes, and carrots, just because the food banks around here can't get rid of it quick enough.
I'm sure this is more of a rural/suburban issue, but check out your churches/food banks.
We have one, that needs no proof of financial struggle where you walk in and basically just take what you want. I don't like to go so that it is saved for people in need but we know some people that volunteer that ask us to come since they have so much.
Christians love to donate food and many many restaurants and grocers donate food that doesn't look great or is expired but still perfectly fine to eat.
