I’ve been contacted by a startup I used to work for. Their latest funding round is oversubscribed. So they’ve asked if I want to sell my options to an existing investor; who wants more of a share of the company.
I’m pretty torn as what to do. I don’t fully understand when options can usually be exercised. So I don’t know when I’d get a chance to make money from them again. Which makes me inclined to sell them. But also if the round is oversubscribed (ie there’s too much demand) it makes me feel like it could be worth hanging onto them.
If I took the money, I’d use it to buy my first house. So it feels like a potentially good thing for my life to sell them now.
My question is, is there anyone with experience with startup options? How likely is it I’ll get a chance to use them in the future? Are there any questions I could be asking to figure out if this is a good time to sell?
