Recently i've been wanting to cook more, it's something I enjoy doing and it's a nice skill to have. However, contrary to what I often hear from people, it's actually been about equally as expensive as what I would spend if I were to just go out to eat.
For example, last night I made chili, in the end with all the ingredients (canned corn, 3 different types of peppers, 3 different types of canned beans, tomato sauce, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, chili powder, ground beef, bread, sour cream, shredded cheese) the total came out to around ~60 dollars. I understand that obviously I still have enough chili to have another dinner, but is eating out really that much more expensive than just making your own food? The grocery store I went to was Wegmans, and if you live in NY i'm sure you'd know just how expensive wegmans can get. Should I start using walmart more often? It's a lot harder for me to get there because by the time i'm off of work walmart is already closing.
Would it be cheaper to start doing things like making my own bread and attempting to start a small garden in my apartment?
