I don't make a lot but I live comfortably and can afford to set aside about $50 a month towards my niece and nephew, plus $100 for birthdays or holidays. This would be for schooling or medical costs. Maybe a college fund - not sure what is the most useful. I don't plan to tell my sister or anyone in my family about this.
Long story short I don't like my sister or her husband and they're absolutely terrible with money. They make more than I do and decide to live paycheck to paycheck due to frivolous spending. Because of our different life views I'm very low contact, which is upsetting because I adore their babies.
It's to the point where I've chosen to skip out on flying down for my nephew's birthday and just sending a birthday card. I figure I might as well take that amount I am going to spend on a flight and put it away for him. Save myself the headache now, lol.
SO! It's not a huge amount but what can I do with roughly $50 a month? Just set aside in a savings account and wait until they're 18? Are there any other account types I should look into?.
The amount might also go up to $100, I'm not quite sure just yet.
Thank you for reading - have a wonderful Saturday everyone!
