Hi!
I’ll try to make this not too lengthy!
- 24, living in FL, making around $66k
- working remotely
- in a relationship (only relevant because they would have to move with me too)
Yesterday my boss offered me a position in Los Angeles for $150k. My initial reaction was shock and gratitude. I love my job now, I enjoy working for my boss, and it feels like a dream situation anyone would feel lucky to be in to be offered.
However, LA is much more expensive than where I live (about 60% supposedly), I’ve never been to California, the job itself isn’t something i think id like, and quite frankly I’m not good with change.
This is personal finance, so my main question is - how far will $150k get me in LA? The only reason for seriously considering it is the money and how crazy it feels to pass that up. My 5-10 year plan is to start a family and work remotely or even stay home potentially, and I feel like this could help me save up enough to do so.
- Currently have $59k saved
- split rent so I pay $800/month
- groceries normally $200/month
- utilities, car insurance, car payments, misc expenses $665/month
- I don’t go out a lot so maybe like $250 on fun stuff
- my take home pay is $4600 after taxes and I try to save at least $1000 a month. Most times it’s more.
I know mental health is important and money isn’t everything, so if you have any advice from that side I’m happy to hear, but be it this is a finance Reddit - would this be a smart move financially? Thank you!
