I’m a 24M and was recently diagnosed with cancer. Chemo therapy starts next month. I honestly don’t know what my life expectancy is (it’s a little too morbid for me to want to look into right now). I have good insurance that will cover most of my treatments, and am not expecting crippling medical debt. I have 6 months worth of a safety net in a savings account, and invest into index funds regularly

For purposes of planning out my finances, I can’t tell if it’s worth setting up an IRA. I already have a 401K, but don’t know if I should be locking up my money until I’m 60, if I’ll be taking a penalty to withdraw it early if my condition worsens.

Am I thinking about this correctly? Should I be planning my finances any differently due to this unexpected condition?
