So let me preface this by saying I don't want to put my parents in jail, they are both old and sick, with my dad being probably at the end stage of his life due to pancreatic cancer messing him up bad. I know that leaves me with minimal options, but regardless id still like insight about what I can do and how to just.. deal with it emotionally.
My mother put my name in the Gas and Electric when I was a child. Due to my dads health problems, and lack of oversight from the companies and clearly not realizing I was a child, they let the bills get up to, no joke, $8000 and $13,000 respectively. So Gas gets shut off last year, in winter mind you, horrible timing, but Mom gets a deal with the gas company to pay off the bill where she pays $130 a month, and they take off $700. Now thats fair, given how much we owed, and how long it had been going on. Im not paying a cent on that bill, because they love the heat being at max all fall/winter/early spring, I did however, say id pay on electric. Mom says we have a "planned outage" from the power company, im like makes sense, they have been doing road work. Turns out she was lying, and Electric gets shut off. They turned it back on for now, but we are saddled with figuring out if they will do a similar deal, or make us pay $900 a month until its paid off. We cannot do that much, between me and my Mom being the only ones who work and other bills/rent, our pay plus Dads disability will not cover it.
I have been homeless before, picking up cans off the highway to eat once every two days, living in homeless shelters, etc,. I do not want to and cannot deal with that again. If they wont do a similar deal, which would be fair given the situation, what should I do?
