The car was blowing cool, but not cold air.
It had the correct amount of freon, which was our first check.
I told my GF - it's your condenser, and maybe another small part, but your compressor is good.
She took it to her mom's mechanic, they said the same thing, condenser, filter, etc. and quoted her $1700 over the phone. She immediately started talking about some kinda flash car repair loan thing, that she has used before and paid off. And asked them to start the process of pushing through that loan.
And I stared at her and said 'Oh No, no no. You need to tell them to wait, that you'll call them back in a few minutes. '
Know how I know she's a keeper?
She took my statement into consideration,
realized that she had nothing to lose by hearing me out,
and told them to hold off, that she would call them back.
And we talked about the cost and financing and other options. She HAS to have A/C that works well, as she frequently transports animals, and it's 110 degrees here.
I pulled up Google Maps. Made two phone calls.
And found an A/C specialist that's actually closer than the 1st place.
$600-800 depending on the smaller things.
$900 savings in 10 minutes.
We paid the 1st mechanic his diagnostic fee, tried to tip, which he refused, and got the car back.
It's going to the specialist in a few days, but it's worth the wait.
