So I closed my xfinity account in 10/2019 and paid off everything in good standing. I even opened another account the following year with no issues of "hey you still owe us money from your previous account". So I close that account after my year lease and all is well. Except now out of nowhere I get a collections on my credit report saying I owe Comcast $86 from 2019. No one ever reached out to me trying to collect this debt I all of a sudden owe. No email, texts, or letter (even tho I moved so they would also know this because that was the reason I closed account. So they would either email or call). So is it allowed to say I owe a debt that was never once brought to my attention? I even talked to Comcast support and they had no record of me owing anything or that it was sent to collections. I asked the collection agency (Southwest) to provide proof of the debt and they just emailed me a pdf saying that I owed a debt of $86 from a Comcast bill I never paid. That's not very good proof if you ask me.
So should i dispute this? I asked if I paid in full if they would remove the collection from my report and they said they wouldn't. Only mark that it was paid in full. What would be my best course of action here?
