So my wife and I are being gifted a $1.6 million dollar house by her father. We never expected this and he's never done anything like this before. Obviously, this is a life changer.
Question is - I don't know how to tell family and friends - mainly family. They'll be curious and may ask questions. If they know Ive been gifted a 1.6 house, they will talk (mild) shit behind my back. It will be little remarks forever, and they will talk about it amongst themselves for years to come.
If they zillow the house they'll see how much it is. They know we don't have that kind of money, and that her father is rich.
So I was thinking something like...."X helped us" or "X helped us a lot." Or if my family asks about a mortgage - "no mortgage, the bank of X" (as if we're gonna pay him back).
A really good problem to have, I know.
Any thoughts?
