Hey all,

I currently want to help my dad prepare for retirement. He’s 60, and although claims he is never going to retire - I know I need to help him prepare if he’s not able to work anymore.

As a bit of background, he lives in a developing country where the cost of living is fairly low, my dad has his home paid off, and owns two properties which he rents for daily income in our local currency. He doesn’t have any other debts to my knowledge.

Ideally we would like to preserve the earnings he’s accumulated and help him to grow the money - perhaps providing him with more side income in USD for when he visits US (several times per year - this is where I live). Keeping the money safely invested will give him a bit of an emergency fund if he has healthcare issues and needs to come for treatment in US.

The main issue is my father doesn’t know much about investing. He is fairly risk adverse, but since I started in the stock market last year I’ve encouraged him a bit and he seems interested. Currently his investments are in bonds paying him approx 1% a year interest.

He has around $600k USD which he’s saved up over his working life, and I’m keen to invest this in some safe, high quality investments. We have access to most US domiciled ETFs.

I’ve picked the below and are interested in hearing your comments on this, as well as open to other suggests on what I could have him buy.

VOO - 200k the bread and butter of investing. This will provide him with some growth as well as a small amount of dividend income. I wish to diversify away from this in fear of another tech bubble.

NOBL - 100k this is shifted away from tech stocks which I am keen to diversify away from. Also provides him with dividend income which shows a sign of company strength.

VYM -100k - same as above. Dividend income and less tech companies.

VEU 100k - diversify away from the US economy. I think this has some solid holdings.

Other options include brk, Shpd, vanguard real estate. I’m open to suggestions on what we should pick.
