First of all, sorry for my English - not a native speaker. Honestly, posting this here because I have no idea what to do and would appreciate some perspective.
I am 28 and currently working as a senior data scientist in a large bank. Have been in the organisation for nearly 4 years and didn’t get the promised promotion due to circumstances beyond me (although each year I was getting a somewhat decent pay increase). I am tried finding new roles within organization but unsuccessfully - either I didn’t have management experience or wouldn’t want to abandon my current field of data science altogether. I feel quite stuck currently, however, it’s a very comfortable and safe job to be in.
I just got an offer to join a tech company, which is still in a rather early development phase. The offer was somewhat lowballed from my expectations, however, it would still offer a 20% increase. The job seems to be more exciting. Sometimes I feel like dying in my current job during the meetings- personally implementation of SAFE Agile feels like a religious cult with endless and pointless meetings. The recent reorganisations in my job and the implementation of SAFE resulted in absolutely lowest point of my personal motivation, moreover, many colleagues have left as well. Nevertheless, the new job would be a bit worse shift wise - people are scattered across US and EU thus some meetings might end at 8pm (not terrible but not ideal either)
My current job is secure and within my comfort zone, have additional benefits like more holidays, additional pension plan, stock options, gym, good private health insurance (not US, so less relevant). I basically live stress free life. Also, the office is next to my home and is amazing. Overall the benefit package more or less equals the pay difference between the jobs.
So is it worth it to leave my current well paying and extremely stable job for a tech startup with a 20% increase but fewer benefits. If it was at least 30%, I wouldn’t be posting this here…
