Hi everyone. About two years ago I was hospitalized due to a suicide attempt. At the same time I was also going through a divorce. My husband at the time had put in the divorce papers while I was in the hospital and therefore I lost my insurance while hospitalized. For the record he was in the military so we had TriCare, we are no longer in contact and therefore I have no idea where he is currently since he's active duty.
Now, I've discovered that I've been receiving a bill addressed to him (although they got his name wrong) for the past 2 years due to my mother just throwing them out because she believes its not my responsibility because its addressed to him. At the time when I was told that he had taken me off the medical insurance while in the hospital my mother told me that he couldn't do that. Now I'm thinking because he did that, that is why the bill is addressed to him. Does anyone know if I have any responsibility in this situation? Its about a 4k bill and its not something I want to go into collections.
TLDR: Ex-husband (active duty military, Tricare insurance) cancelled my health insurance while in the hospital and now I'm receiving a bill in the mail addressed to him. Is it my responsibility since I'm the patient?
