When my son was born, we opened a 529 account for him, and we've been making regular contributions to it monthly. About seven years down the road, and the account continues to grow quite nicely.

A few years back, he was diagnosed with autism and he is still non-verbal today. He is in a special school currently for children with autism, and we're not sure if public school or college will be in his future, though he continues to make great progress with his speech and development.

Is there another account we should be looking into for him to help save for future expenses? Are there any parents of children with disabilities who have opened something different we should look into?

If it helps, we also have another child who is neurotypical, and we assume he will be using his own 529 for college, trade school, etc.
