I follow a body builder's flexible diet by tracking calories & proteins in order to stay healthy; but it can get expensive & time consuming with all the cooking as well as typically bland to eat. I think I have successfully found a balance to all this...
1) Shop Amazon Fresh at specific times for discounts & saving time on shopping. Right now 99% lean ground turkey is $3.91 /lb, down from $6.99 (happens toward the end of each month and is much lower than I've found anywhere else).
2) Meal prep by browning the 99% turkey with veggies on Sundays, this only takes about 20-30 minutes and preps the meals for days.
3) Each morning take out your daily portion of browned turkey & heat it in a skillet with whatever seasoning you want that day (My seasoning picks: tacos, fajitas, Mongolian beef, low calorie bbq).
4) Use healthy tortilla wraps as the turkey's vehicle & add snacks in to help with cravings while staying below the calorie goal.
I love this because it allows you to eat healthy, for a reasonable cost, with minimal cooking times, and flavor variety. With this i have found the diet to be much more sustainable while keeping the calories under 2k and the protein around 1g per lb of body weight.
Cost breakdown of a typical day, <2k calories & 200g protein, $11.25 (not incl. snacks):
•$3.91 for 1 lb of 99% turkey
•$3.19 for healthy tortillas (healthy but expensive)
•$1 for 1 bag if frozen veggies
•$0.19 for 1/2 cup of brown rice
•$0.45 for taco seasoning packet
•$1.58 for 2 protein shakes
•$0.70 for 1/2 cup of 0% Fage yogurt
