I was recently in a car accident where the other drive is at-fault. I am currently in the process of negotiating the fair market value of my car with my insurance. I have done the following things so far:
-
I have contacted the at-fault driver’s insurance and have filed a claim. Their claim agent has offered a settlement/compensation for the claim already. I have not accepted yet.
-
My car has been taken in for inspection; I’ve collected all of my personal belongings from my vehicle. It has been declared a total loss and the total loss adjuster has called with his initial offer. I believe it to be low and was told he will come back to me with new information this week.
-
I’ve contacted my county asking for a refund on my car’s property tax.
What other things do I need to do? I’m in the process of looking for a new used vehicle. I need to schedule a visit to my doctor to see if I have more serious injuries besides whiplash. This whole process has been very overwhelming for me.
