I’m not sure if it’s making international news but the Irish healthcare system is currently facing a ransomware attack https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-57111615.
The attack has had damaging affects with appointment cancellations and so on.
Such attacks are becoming more and more common, typically against state services as seen with the recent gas pipeline attack on the US. Purely speculation but in the long term, I see these attacks becoming more common against individuals also I.e. Instagram accounts hacked until ransom is paid. This actually happened to a big local tattoo artist here.
This gets me thinking about security plays, Okta are big players in that space, now sitting at $229.
