When you are given a gift card to one of the major stores such as Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, Target, etc, what do you redeem these gift cards for? This is my mind set and approach to things. I purchase things that I know will be used within the next few months.
Best Buy- Printer paper and ink Amazon- Shampoo, detergent, hand soap, deodorant Walmart-Food, toilet paper, cat litter/food, body wash Target-Same as Walmart and Amazon
The idea here is try to spend those gift cards on the necessities in your life that you know for sure you are going to purchase any way. You don’t NEED that new game at Best Buy, you want it. You don’t need that kindle fire tablet off Amazon, you want it. Treat those gift cards like cash and don’t spend it on frivolous things just because you didn’t work for it. Last example, those pre-paid Visa cards that I assume the majority of you have received, should be spent all on gas. Not only does this save you money, but when you want to purchase your desired item, you can shop around and not feel tied to that store you have the gift card for.
