Initially I was supposed to receive $3328 in tax returns. But for some reason when I finally got my return today (after filing as soon as they opened it), my return was over 600 dollars smaller than it was supposed to be. They’re claiming a bunch of reasons for it being smaller.
“More details about the changes we made to your tax return: We changed the amount claimed as Recovery Rebate Credit on your tax return. The error was in one or more of the following: The Social Security number of one or more individuals claimed as a qualifying dependent was missing or incomplete. The last name of one or more individuals claimed as a qualifying dependent does not match our records. One or more individuals claimed as a qualifying dependent exceeds the age limit. Your adjusted gross income exceeds $75,000 ($150,000 if married filing jointly, $112,500 if head of household)”
The problem is none of this is true. I don’t have any dependents, nor did I claim any, and I didn’t make 75,000 dollars last year (I Made state minimum wage for most of the year, and wasn’t even employed for almost five months thanks to covid). I don’t know why they’re claiming all this, and I don’t know what to do. I’ve already talked to my parents (who helped me file) but I don’t know what I’m supposed to do next.
