I (21M) have a great group of friends, let me start by saying that. They're great people, we have a great time together and are very close to each other. However, what irks me is that they regularly complain about being broke, in spite of earning roughly the same amount as I do. Thankfully, I connected with my frugal side around the time I turned 14, and I've never been 'broke' since. I always participate when we go out to eat or drink, I'm not a cheap person by any means. My friends, however, do not seem to understand the idea of having some semblance of a budget in their lives. When payday arrives, it's all fun and giggles but as the month progresses, the faint whining starts, that how they don't make enough, how everything's so expensive etc etc. All of us still live with our parents, so there's no question of having to pay for rent or utilities or groceries.
I have always suggested making a budget, tracking your expenses, having a rainy-day fund, investing in shares (investing in shares takes no time at all these days, literally no effort) and whatnot. They just don't get it, they just nod and yeah-yeah it away. I just want them to be good with their money, to be financially literate, not spend money on useless crap each month and not be broke frequently. Any advice on how to help them improve, or should I stop giving a damn altogether? This comes from a place of genuine concern.
TL/DR : I have financially illiterate friends who always whine about being broke but never seem to make an effort to improve.
