Hi everyone, I'm Canadian my grandfather died unexpectedly a month ago. I'm 19 and have no experience with any of this, so I really don't know what to do with his finances. I should've asked this earlier, but I was so preoccupied with the funeral and school I wasn't able to really deal with his finances. Covid definitely didn't help either. Most of my family lives overseas and do not speak English (I live with my grandparents), so the responsibility of dealing with basically everything has fallen onto me, and I kind of don't know what to do.
I know about the Survivor's and Death Benefit, which I will be applying for (on behalf of my grandma). I know to close all of his bank accounts, and change any joint account to the other person's name. I called Service Canada already and reported his death, but I have not done so for the CRA yet because it's tax season and waiting hours are long (though I've filed his 2020 taxes already). That's about all I did, but I know there's still plenty more to do.
I would greatly appreciate if any of you could help me with my next steps. I'm sorry this is kind of vague, I but I don't even know what I don't know. Thank you so much.
