I had a bone-marrow biopsy almost three months ago. I went to an in-network facility, but they sent my marrow specimen to an out-of-network lab (Neogenomics). My insurance company initially processed it as an out-of-network claim, leaving me with almost $2,600 owed out of pocket. I explained to my insurer that I made sure to choose an in-network hospital and had no control over where the sample was sent. They agreed to re-process it as an in-network claim, but they said I need to get the bill from Neogenomics first and then call back. I called Neogenomics, explained the situation, and asked them to please send me the bill. I haven't gotten anything from them.

If they hadn't filed a claim already, I wouldn't care--they would miss the insurer's timely filing deadline, and then I would owe them nothing. But since a claim has already been processed, I am going to get stuck owing $2,600 if they don't send me this bill so I can go back to the insurance and have the claim re-processed as in-network.

What should I do here? Call the insurance company and see if they can re-process it without the bill? Keep hounding Neogenomics? A third option I don't know about?
