So I am trying to decide if I want to be a pizza delivery driver as a full time career. I worked in pizza delivery at Domino's as my first job at 18 and loved it. My vehicle was my office and made really good money. I was there for 5 years and decided to move up and was a GM of a store by 21. I didn't enjoy that position as much as a driver and decided to leave after 2 years. Have worked in different jobs since then mainly restaurants manager positions and have done very well as a career for last 10 years in that role. Within last 2 years I have been working in a warehouse as forklift driver and have had a lot of free time and decided to get a side job at Marco's Pizza as a driver for extra money. I forgot how much I loved being a driver and I have been completely shocked at how much my income has been working this position part time. I work in a really nice area mainly middle and upper middle class area. This is a breakdown of what I have been making.
Wages ($6.00 on road) ($9.00 when in store, not on delivery)
Paid $2.50 per delivery ( This is the highest mileage fee that I have seen paid to drivers ever)
Tips with mileage I average usually over $600.00 a week (yes $600 is correct).
Just to give you a idea. I log all my tips for each shift and the last 15 shifts I have worked I have made over $100 each shift.
Paid every 2 weeks and usually make between $400 to $500 a check.
Owner has came out and said he will have 401k available to employees later this year with a match.
I have been working about 30 hours a week picking up shifts here and there and typically spend about $40 a week in gas. If I went full time 40 hours or more a week I'm sure I would make a killing by the end of year.
This has really made me seriously consider a career change especially with a retirement plan offered. I know this particular job is usually never seen as a career and usually more of a side hustle for most but I love the job and I am good at it. My vehicle is my office and its legit one of the easiest jobs I have ever had.
Just curious everyone's thoughts.
