As a 24 year old near CompSci graduate considering his options for future employment, I have been having an internal debate I would like to pose to the good people of r/Frugal.

It's essentially about being frugal with money and TIME, and how to handle it when those ideals clash. I've worked 50+ hour weeks in the industry before. I know that this is considered a small amount comparative to some. I see my father in the same industry putting in 80 hours every week and getting paid for 40. I know that the expectation for new employees is that they are ambitious and driven and this means willing to spend insane amounts of time working or at least thinking about work.

Because of this, I neither need nor want these higher paying programming jobs. I have very good frugal money habits and can live as comfortably as I could possibly want and have tons of saving off a minimum wage salary. So for me, working full time or for unpaid overtime feels lie a huge waste. I honestly want to work under 30h weeks for the rest of my life. I've yet to see a part time programming job and feel like even it somehow landed in my lap, the same overtime and work from home and stay constantly online and in touch mentality would still persist. My friend said he could get me a job as a part time bus driver where the only option for full time/promotion is if I stick around long enough. Which honestly sounds perfect but the perception of low ambition is scary and I do worry if i will need more fulfilment later in life.

What do you guys think? Has anyone purposely chosen a lower paid job in order to save time and regretted it? or maybe a success story? I'd love to hear any thoughts or input.
