I'm really confused about what's going on with GME (Gamestop) stock right now. r/wallstreetbets is absolutely convinced that they're going to make millions this week with Gamestop, and they've encouraged everyone to put as much money into the stock as possible. I've seen people who have put their entire retirement funds into GME, or borrowed $30k from their parents to put in, and one guy even has $2 million dollars in it.
There's pretty much no mention of Gamestop anywhere else on reddit, though. r/wallstreetbets are constantly making fun of themselves for being stupid, and all discussions are full of awful jokes and rocket ship emojis, so it's hard to know how real this is.
Are these people onto something, and we could all make some significant cash this week by buying GME stock? Or are they correct in calling themselves stupid and they're all going to lose all of their money by the end of the week? Obviously with stocks we never know for sure, but what are the real odds here?
