Just today, I found out that a friend's SS was stolen to open a student loan and that loan default. This is a bad timing for my friend as he's looking to buy a house.
I placed the credit freeze on all three credit bureaus today to reduce the chance that this happen to me. It's free to do so and I think everyone should do it to protect themselves.
